About Natural Moss Designs
We are three artists who found our way into this work by simply spending time creating together. What started as small experiments with moss, dried flowers, and natural textures slowly became something we cared deeply about. What we first thought was a form of escape was actually an outlet for expression and passion.
We work out of our home studio in Oakland, Ca where most days look like materials spread across the table, music playing, and all three of us working on different pieces or sometimes on the same piece at the same time. Some designs come together quickly while others sit for days until they feel right.
A piece can turn into a little landscape or sometimes it becomes something more structured or sculptural. A lot of the time we don’t fully know what it will become when we start. We let the materials guide the direction. Everything we make is done by hand, slowly and intentionally without production lines.
Cathya Mendoza
Cathya’s process usually starts with whatever catches her eye first. It could be a texture, a shape, or even a small detail that feels interesting, and she builds from there without overthinking it. She likes to move things around, layer, and experiment as she goes, letting the piece come together naturally instead of following a set plan.
She’s always enjoyed trying different creative outlets, and that curiosity continues to shape her work. Her background, including earning her MBA, has influenced the way she approaches creating, thinking not just about how something looks, but how it comes together as a whole. Her pieces feel organic and easy, but still intentional, with each element finding its place over time.
Favorite colors: black and pink
Dyane Mendoza
Dyane’s process is a little different. She likes to have a clear idea before she starts and often already knows how she wants the piece to look and feel. She takes her time thinking through the layout, making sure everything has a place before she begins putting it together.
She’s been drawing and creating for as long as she can remember, so a lot of what she does comes very naturally to her. She has a strong eye for color and is especially good at blending and matching tones in a way that feels balanced but still fun. Even though she’s very intentional in her process, her work still comes out playful and full of life. As she continues pursuing a medical career, that same focus and attention to detail naturally carries into her artwork.
Favorite color: blue
Liz Loughlin
Liz’s process sits somewhere in between structure and going with the flow. She often works on multiple pieces at once, letting ideas develop naturally instead of sticking to just one plan. Things might feel a little scattered at first, but she has a way of bringing everything together so it feels calm and complete in the end.
She’s been a business owner for many years, so she’s used to thinking ahead, solving
problems, and adjusting when things don’t go as planned. That experience carries into her art, helping her stay flexible while still keeping everything balanced. Her work feels grounded and thoughtful, with each piece coming together in a way that feels natural and steady.
Favorite colors: sage green and blue
